The Idaho Freedom Caucus has recently signed on as a co-signer of an Amicus Brief brought forward by The American Lands Council.

The lawsuit calls for the U.S. Supreme Court to address critical legal questions regarding the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and unappropriated lands in Utah.

The outcome of this case will inherently impact all 245 million acres of unappropriated land across the country.

Join us in supporting this effort to safeguard our public lands for future generations, ensuring they remain cherished resources that benefit both people and wildlife alike.

We, the undersigned, are committed to ensuring that Idaho’s public lands are managed to promote clean air and water, reduce wildfire risks, protect wildlife habitats, support outdoor recreation, and strengthen the safety and vibrancy of our communities.

Idaho, like many western states, faces challenges from federally owned lands. While these lands provide recreational opportunities, they limit local property tax revenues, private ownership, and contribute to wildfire risks, creating tension between state and federal authorities.

Many Idahoans are calling for a reexamination of federal land policies, like those in eastern states, where land is primarily state-managed. The American Lands Council (ALC) is leading efforts for local control, arguing that federal bureaucracy has proven ineffective.

The ALC, along with Utah, is pursuing a Supreme Court ruling on the constitutionality of federal control over unappropriated lands. This lawsuit, excluding national parks, targets lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The Idaho Freedom Caucus is supporting this challenge, which could significantly affect Idaho’s public lands.

The Wapiti wildfire near Stanley highlights the urgent need for land management reform. The Idaho Freedom Caucus believes state-led solutions will better protect Idaho’s lands and benefit its citizens.

We support legal and legislative efforts to allow Idaho to gradually assume control of specific federal lands for responsible local management.
